Cool JDM Old School Celica

Toyota have previously made some of the best old school cool JDM cars ever, honestly they just look simply amazing. The old school Toyota celica is the perfect example, of a cool JDM classic car, it just looks so right. The first generation Celica was introduced at the 1971 Tokyo motor show but it did not go for sale in Japan until 1973. The Toyota Celica GT came in many different models, which all look amazing until the last generation in the 2000s which must be said is my least favourite Celica.

Toyota RA25 old school Celica GT Liftback

The RA25 Celica was never officially exported by Toyota Japan, which was a waste to the rest of the world. It was nicknamed the mini mustang as it looks very similar to the mustang of the same era. The RA25 Celica came with 2000cc GT engine which produced 134bhp and the car weighed 1040 kg.

The above old school Celica is a perfect example of an classic JDM car. This RA25 Celica has only got 27,000kms on the clock and the bodywork on the car is in perfect condition. The Celica has an addition of really cool old school alloys, that sit under the car perfect. This RA25 celica has been graded by the auction house as a repair vehicle but im too not sure why, maybe it has had restoration work done at some point. This RA25 Celica sold in Auction for $15,424 and I think it’s  worth every cent and will most definitely be worth a lot more in the future.

Toyota Celica TA22

Another old school Celica sold in auction this week in Japan. This was a TA22 1974 Celica with a 1600cc engine and 92,000 on the clock, it was also a GT model. This TA22 celica was not in as good condition as the previous RA25 model above but in my opinion it looks great, I love the period perfect decals. This Celica has also got more modification work done to it, it’s got Solex Carbs, and a FRP bonnet. The bodywork requires a small tidy up as its starting to show signs of rust and the windshield has a chip in it. The Celica sold for $13,246 at auction last week.

Just to give some perspective on the above car prices in Auction, I searched for some other old school Celica’s for sale in Japan. As you would expect the market isn’t flooded with cool JDM Celica classics but there is a few nice cars for sale. The below GTV Celica has the 1600cc engine but this car looks amazing with the arch extensions and larger wider wheels. The GTV Celica is a 1975 TA22 coupe with 49,000 kms on the clock, it currently for sale for $17,600 here.

The below TA27 liftback Celica is for sale at www.fujicars.jp for a whopping $23,000 but to be fair these cars are worth every penny when they are in perfect condition. This TA27 Celica below has had a full restore and is in new condition as can be seen from the pictures there’s not even a speck of dirt in the arches. this car is a true JDM classic, that will only increase in value.

If a project car was more your style (or in my case, only option due to budget) there’s about 3 Classic Celicas at yahoo auctions Japan which are all averaging around $5,000 but they require serious bodywork as they are all suffering from serious rust issues.

This TA22 Celica seems like it’s been stored inside and might be savable (lets hope) it currently has 35 bids and at $4550, If I lived near this I’d definitely put a sneaky bid on it. The car is for sale here.
